"I grew up in Akron, Ohio where my father was a carpenter and cabinet maker. His
workshop was in our basement...so I have been around wood all my life. I have a
BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in Advertising & Graphic Design. I have
worked as an advertising agency art director and graphic designer for over 40 years.
I suppose I am merging my graphic designer with my woodworker.
I have exhibited at the Society for Contemporary Crafts satellite gallery in One
Mellon Center and G Squared Gallery in Ligonier, PA. My work is currently
available at the Eclectic Collector Gallery in Katonah, New York.
These are functional and useful pieces, but their primary function is to give delight
to their owner. The pieces contain their little surprises...in their shape and form...
their color and their surface patterns...their unexpected drawers and doors.
I want each of my pieces to exude a specialness...they must be interesting to have
around...interesting and imaginative company...a different and unusual touch here
and there...a little “ah ha!” or delight that we did not expect.
I use various woods to construct a unique body shape and then paint various parts
to give it a new skin...I use the rhythms of patterns and colors to give the piece a
totally new personality."
